Gardener in Bellinzona
We work in Bellinzona and across the Bellinzona region: garden design, construction and maintenance, tree climbing and automatic irrigation. Free site visit.
Greenery in the capital of Ticino
Bellinzona has a different landscape identity from that of the Sottoceneri. The Magadino plain, the slopes descending from the UNESCO castles of Castelgrande, Montebello and Sasso Corbaro, the foothills of Monte Carasso and Sementina create very varied contexts: urban kitchen gardens in the historic centre, recent residences with contemporary gardens in the surrounding municipalities, ancient terracing on the slopes.
The climate also has a character of its own: the Bellinzona region is slightly more continental than the Lugano area, with wider temperature ranges and more frequent winter frosts. This influences the available botanical palette and the timing of pruning, sowing and treatments. Working here means knowing these differences and not mechanically importing solutions designed for the lake.

Discover more →Why a Lugano-based gardener in the Bellinzona region?
Giardini Fioriti's operational base is in Lugano, but for years we have regularly served clients in the Bellinzona region. The motorway distance is 30 minutes, less than many urban journeys within a single city, and it allows us to bring to the Bellinzona region an organisational structure that smaller local firms often cannot offer: JardinSuisse-certified arborists for tree climbing, a dedicated design team, and specialised equipment for complex sites.
For annual maintenance contracts we schedule visits in fixed windows, optimising routes and maintaining the frequency your garden requires. For one-off jobs, a specialist pruning, the installation of an irrigation system, the construction of a pergola, we plan and run the site independently.
Plants and design suited to the Bellinzona climate
On the Magadino plain and in the more exposed municipalities we work with species tolerant of cold and valley winds: maples, beeches, birches, hornbeams, conifer varieties. On the foothill slopes we take advantage of the better thermal protection to introduce more Mediterranean species, olives, holm oaks, evergreen viburnums, which, with the right precautions, perform well even in a more continental climate.
For contemporary gardens we favour low-maintenance vegetation structures: ornamental grasses, hardy perennials, coherent shrub masses. This approach reduces the interventions needed over time and copes better with the typical temperature swings of the Bellinzona region.
Frequently asked questions, Gardener in the Bellinzona region
Do you only work in Bellinzona or also in nearby municipalities?
We work regularly across the entire Bellinzona region: Bellinzona itself, Giubiasco, Camorino, Sementina, Monte Carasso, Arbedo-Castione, with one-off interventions also towards the Three Valleys (Biasca, Pollegio, Faido). For maintenance contracts we schedule visits to optimise travel.
Do you charge a surcharge for travel from Lugano?
No. For annual maintenance contracts and design-and-build projects, travel is included in the quote. Only for very small one-off jobs (under 2 hours of work) a small travel cost may be indicated in the quote.
Are you familiar with the Bellinzona climate?
Yes, we have worked in this region for years. We know that the Bellinzona region is colder than the Lugano area, subject to late spring frosts and valley winds, and that the suitable botanical palette is different. We calibrate design choices and intervention timings accordingly.
Can you prune monumental trees in the castles or in historic properties?
Yes. We have JardinSuisse-certified arborists and professional tree climbers, able to work on large and high-value trees with conservative techniques. We provide preliminary plant-health assessment and a technical report.
How far in advance should I book a site visit?
For quote site visits we can usually arrange a slot within 7-10 days. In spring (March-May) demand increases and lead times can extend to 2-3 weeks: we recommend contacting us early if you are planning works for the season.
